The Youth Center in Gelephu was established in 2006 and caters to providing information on various themes through library materials, internet connections etc. It caters to all the schools in and around Gelephu. The youth center also plays an important role in maintaining the friendship between the youths in Bhutan and across the boarder.

Objective:
The short term objective of the program is to engage the youth and keep them occupied during their holidays and at the same time helping to enhance their environmental conservation conscience so that they become environmental stewards in future;

The long term objective of the center is to educate the youth who in turn will educate the locals on environmental degradation, industrial pollutions (Gelephu is an industrial town) and land degradation (Gelephu is in the monsoon-prone area).

Activities:
Environmental education awareness campaign (10 days) during school break July 2008 & January 2009;
Youth Literary Meet (1 day) quarterly during the scholastic year.

The Center will announce the invitation and registration of interested youth for the program which will have to be initiated at the earliest possible. The center has already identified the area/location for excursion. The program will be composed for both boys and girls.

The project has two main objectives:
1. The Short Term: The objective of the program is to engage the youth and keep them occupied during their holidays and at the same time helping to enhance their environmental conservation conscience so that they become environmental stewards in future.
2. The Long Term: the long term objective of the project is to educate the youth who in turn will educate the locals on environmental degradation, industrial pollutions (Gelephu is an industrial town) and land degradation (Gelephu is in the monsoon- prone area).
