The project covers parts of the semi-arid area of Gaza province and concurrently parts of the large miombo ecosystem of this region; the area is rich in flora and birdlife biodiversity and its resources greatly contribute livelihoods support of surrounding communities; part of the problems faced in the region are due to deforestation, bushfires, limited water and soil conservation, and lack of diversified livelihoods support activities; the main project activities will be to rehabilitate parts of the forest cover, promote watershed conservation, improve farming practices, livestock breeding, and fruit-tree planting; the project will also establish means to fetch and transport water from water streams to villages, and rise environmental awareness among community members.
