Creating awareness for action among urban malaysians to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through sustainable transport options.
The project is aimed at raising the awareness and building the capacity of various categories of urban Malaysians to assess their respective energy usages for transport, in order to motivate them to reduce their use of energy and motorized transport to sustainable levels, thereby also lowering their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their climate change ecological footprints.

The term Energy Efficiency is often almost exclusively perceived in terms of electricity. However, recent studies undertaken by CETDEM have shown that fuel utilized for motorized vehicular transport constitutes between 70-75% of the energy consumed by urban households. Hence, there is an urgent need for Malaysians to curb further their GHG emissions from all sectors, including transport and urban households. With the provision of some practical tools, the project aims to educate and urge urban Malaysians to take action to reduce their adverse impacts on climate change by implementing sustainable transport options, ie walk instead of driving short distances for errands, etc.

Conduct surveys on 'Good Driving Practices and Vehicle Maintenance' on recommended practices which can optimise effieciency and minimise fuel consumption and and on 'Public Transportation' for data on sustainable transportation which would be used to formulate a user friendly manual on fuel conservation and sustainable transport use in urban households. It would provide basic guidelines on how best to conduct the audit on transport usage.

Educational posters and pamphlets will be printed for awareness raising briefings. In addition to the printer materials, an interactive CD will be developed as an educational tool which contains information on sustainable transport and sustainable options available. Othr features inclue planning tools, journey planner, CO2 emissions calculator and a quiz.

Briefings will be organised for project participants at 6 different locations nationwide, including 2 locations in East Malaysia. Presentations and educational materials produced will be distributed to the participants.
