Spirit of the Kalahari - Sharing the Land with Predators
Spirit of the Kalahari - Sharing the Land with Predators
This project aims to produce a travelling theatre show and launch the ‘Spirit of the Kalahari – Sharing the Land with Predators’ video which aims to raise awareness for the importance of predators in the Kalahari ecosystem and encourage the use of responsible farming techniques to preserve biodiversity and culture.
Cheetah Conservation Botswana and Lobone Creations are collaborating in this exciting creative project to highlight the loss of traditional culture and natural habitats in Botswana. The staging of this new theatre and media production is designed to unite communities across the country with traditional dance and music, promoting a strong conservation message.

The focus area will be Kalahari communities. In this region the main form of income generation is livestock farming, although this is challenged by unreliable rainfall, overgrazing and bush encroachment. This region also has high levels of human predator conflict and is considered to be the poorest region of Botswana. Such communities require support to minimize current levels of conflict and develop diversified livelihoods which include the sustainable utilization of wildlife and natural resources.

Project Characteristics and Results
Planning non gef grant
CCB is actively fundraising and seeking ongoing support from several donor sources. It is aimed that the CCB Ghanzi activities will be scaled up if support funding can be sourced, as this is a particular centre for human predator conflict and an ideal base from which to support Western Botswana communities.
Linkages gef projects
CCB is not currently engaging with any large GEF projects. We would certainly consider any relevant collaboration and welcome any suggestions.
