The edible orchid species locally known as 'Aula Tshe' are delicacies in Bhutan. The unregulated harvesting practice is resulting into sporadic regeneration of this species as well as hampering the local, micro-ecological biodiversity. The proposed project on commercial propagation of edible orchids through scientific method is a first of its kind in Bhutan and the project could open up avenues for income generation activities for the local communities.

The Chairperson of the Druk Orchid Community Group is a technical person having completed his training on "Orchid Growing" from Australia - Paradise Nursery Melburne.

Progress Report:
The DGA managed to rent a green house at an ideal location, thus managing to save the imported plants even in cold winter nights. To create awareness, participated in the Trade Fair shows and talked on the importance of orchid culture and conservation. Also received a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Trade Industry).
