Fuel Efficient Heating and Cooking Project to reduce environmental degradation and preserve forest goods such as highland herbal medicine in Jakar Bumthang.
Fuel Efficient Heating and Cooking Project to reduce environmental degradation and preserve forest goods such as highland herbal medicine in Jakar Bumthang.
Bumthang Valley is historically famous for the pilgrimage sites attracting thousands of international tourists and national audience each year. With the felling of more trees, not only the inherent charm and value of the valley will be lost, but, the natural hazards such as landslides will occur, thus losing our precious farm land.

Thus the foundation envisions adopting modern energy saving equipments, imparting conservation knowledge to local communities, and integrating environmental concerns into the monastic curriculum.

The communities are actively participating in planning and designing of the project and the main stake holders to participate in quotations calls, installations and maintenance. They will be supported by technical expertise and backstopping from Bumthang Dzongkhag (Agriculture, Forestry and Engineering) unit. The Local communities have agreed to contribute labor in loading, unloading of boulders , sand, cement and for putting up of pillars and slabs to install hot water geysers.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Since student monks come in contact with general public on a frequent basis, it is expected of them to further disseminate and create awareness among general public at large. In this way, sensitization and awareness creation on importance of environment conservation can be carried out. As part of visibility drive of the project, a signage has been erected at the main courtyard of the monastic school where visitors and pilgrims can easily see and thereby help spread awareness on the project.
