Increasing of energy efficiency of Goce Delchev Primary School in Vasilevo
Increasing of energy efficiency of Goce Delchev Primary School in Vasilevo
Goce Delchev Primary School from municipality Vasilevo is a rare example of central school without energy efficiency adaptation. Such schools are notorious as huge consumers of electricity. Performing an energy efficiency project a sustainable system for maximal energy exploitation and usage of renewable energy sources will be created. These systems are main sources for energy supply to major buildings of public interest.
This project includes activities which will increase energy efficiency of Goce Delchev Primary School in Vasilevo. The energy efficiency increase will be achieved through:
1. increasing of temperature in the classrooms of the school
2. decrease of coal and electricity expenditure
Goce Delchev Primary School in Vasilevo is one of the many schools in Republic of Macedonia which uses coal and wood for heating. During the breaks the working temperature in the classrooms rapidly decreases due to constant opening of doors. In addition to this, the school works in two shifts, so by the end of the second shift (the last 2 or 3 lessons) the students attend lessons in classrooms with low temperature.
One of the current reasons for inefficient energy exploitation is the use of old models of electrical bulbs and the large number of lights. Replacing of the electrical bulbs with energy saving LED bulbs will lead to decreased expenditure of electricity and decreased emission of CO2 in the atmosphere.
The conventional way for electricity supply will be supplemented with a solar module for production and accumulation of electricity, which will lead to decrease in electricity consumption.

General aim of the project: Creating a sustainable system for decrease of CO2 emission in the atmosphere through implementing renewable energy sources and implementation of energy efficiency.

Objective 1: Decrease in expenditure of electricity and mineral fuel through usage of renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency by means of mounting a solar module and replacement of electrical bulbs and fitting doors with closing mechanisms.

Objective 2: Education of citizens about exploiting alternative sources of energy by means of workshops and printed material.

With implementation of the project and project activities the final result will be a school with high level of exploiting renewable energy sources and rational use of the energy generated in that way, thus directly influencing coal expenditure and indirectly influencing CO2 emission in the atmosphere.
During project implementation the project team, the partner and the public will be informed about the exploitation of renewable energy sources and will achieve some skills which will help them apply the knowledge to other public and private buildings. This will have a direct influence on CO2 emission in the atmosphere.
The expected outcome of the project and the acquired skills will create possibilities for implementation of the same model on some of the 11 satellite schools to Goce Delchev Primary School and other school throughout Republic of Macedonia.
The outcome of objective one–lower expenditure of electricity through energy saving LED lights will make possible most of the energy to be supplied by solar modules for electricity production and accumulation systems for its storage. The long life of the solar modules, accumulation systems (30 years) as well as the LED bulbs will secure long term cost reduction.
The possibility for realization of this project as a replication and achieved positive results in other schools in Macedonia is high because almost all schools face the same problems and this situation calls for improvement of energy efficiency as a priority of the Local Governments of all Macedonian municipalities.
The ecological aspect of the project is evident because fuel used for heating will be saved and the emission of green house gases will be reduced. Electricity consumption will also be reduced which will reduce the use of fuels such as coal and fuel oil, thus reducing the greenhouse gasses they release. Humankind is widely aware of the devastating effect of the greenhouse gases on the environment.
