Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
During the selection of SGP grantees that are to attend the workshop, gender balance will be taken into consideration. This will help to promote women to attend these important workshops so as to encourage their participation in applying for SGP grants. Also KCS in collaboration with SGP office make a deliberate effort to invite and encourage attendance and participation of women focused SGP grantees.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Having grantees with better capacity to operationalize institutions in an acceptable and accountable manner then they would be continued efforts to involve stakeholders in CBNRM/development programmes at local level. This will provide an opportunity for communities to utilise natural resources and improve their livelihoods. It is hoped that this will strengthen the wiliness of Government to involve stakeholders in natural resources management based on their accountable capacities. It is also anticipated that with lessons learnt the grantees will be able to replicate the successful programmes and projects that will have an impact on their livelihoods. Capacity building workshops shall contribute to the better management of natural resources but will not automatically lead to poverty reduction, and therefore empowerment of the poor, women and marginalised groups in the community is essential. More stakeholders shall be brought on board to help women with entrepreneurial, business management skills to ensure that their projects are ready for the market hence leading to their sustainability and improvement of their livelihoods.
