Mara community was organized and successfully established tree planting project through building of a tree nursery whereby seeds from different tree species were planted. These species include: acaia, dodonia, palms,guavas,papaya,tipuana tipu other seedlings such as mangoes, casuarinas and dates were brought in from government nurseries to complement the project.

A total of 2,000 seedlings grew well and some have been transplanted in one of the farm areas as a measure to combat Mara community’s deteriorating lands. This area measures 100m x100 and is fenced off to deter animals from entering and destroy the trees seedlings.

The community managed to de-bush 100 acres of land under this project from which 50 tones of wood was harvested. The community has secured a tender to supply 2 tons of wood to the nearby government owned resorts every month. This will earn the community N$ 3,000 per month.

Rangeland has improved as more grazing land is available after de-bushing.
