“Project for the restoration of the ecological functions and environmental services of Nuimi National Park”.
“Project for the restoration of the ecological functions and environmental services of Nuimi National Park”.
The project aims to restore the ecological functions and environmental services of Nuimi National Park (NNP) to its former state in terms of providing environmental and ecological support services. NNP is a wetland of importance to both The Gambia and neighboring Senegal and is a part of the Africa-Euro Asian flyway which plays a significant role in biodiversity conservation. The region NNP has been designated a protected area in 1986 by the Government of The Gambia and has since been managed according to a management plan implemented between The Department of Parks and Wildlife and the local communities of the area. Illegal activities including encroachment have take a negative toll on te state of NNP and this project will attempt to reverse that trend by putting on the ground measures designed to restore and protect the park. The involvement of the communities living around the park will form a central component of this project.
