Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation, Sustainable Land Management, Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Livelihood Activities in the traditional landscapes of Sogrunu-Korpe in Ga West Municipal
The purpose of the project is to mainstream climate change adaptation, collaborative sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation practices in the selected communities through capacity building of women farmers on innovative strategies, sustainable livelihood activities and developing access to market opportunities locally and globally.
The project will provide technical back-up support to ensure appropriate yield of farm produce, concreting the linkage of women farmers to a fair and ready market, nurturing and distribution of small animals to women for income generation, formation of women into a cooperative or CBO to continue, solidify and sustain activities for poverty reduction.
The specific objectives of the project are as follows:
• To provide technical support and backstopping to women farmers and sustain capacities to enable them promote sustainable agricultural practices among farmers in the Sogrunu-Korpe traditional landscapes.
• To support sustainable small ruminant rearing to women farmers through the nurturing and distribution to improve and enhance organic farming as a livelihood supplement and supporting farmers to access fair and ready markets for their produce in order to increase their incomes;
• To build and sustain capacities of women farmers into a CBO or Corporative for sustainable land management.
Project Output 1

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Project output 1; Technical support and backstopping provided to women farmers and their capacities sustained to promote sustainable agricultural practices
1. Support women technically and provide the necessary backstopping
Capacities of women farmers will be built through series of appropriate trainings to enable them have enough knowledge and to act appropriately. However, there is still the need to support them on their farms for increased yield and also to ensure that safe agricultural practices are sustained.
2 Support women to train other community members
It was agreed by women farmers to train ten (10) other women farmers or community members in sustainable land management and agricultural practices as a prerequisite to qualify for the income generation component of small animals rearing. DIF will provide support to participating women to achieve this activity.
Project output 2: Twenty (20) women farmers supported to invest in small business enterprises small ruminant rearing and markets access to sustain the business
3. Support women farmers to invest in small ruminants, grass cutter rearing and poultry farming
The project would support twenty (20) indigenous farmers to rear grasscutter and poultry farming on commercial basis. The animals are being nurtured and yet to be distributed, Farmers will be assisted to construct coops and pens. Droppings of these animals would be used as farm manure. Beneficiaries would repay the package to enable the project extend to other farmers on line.
4. Link farmer trust groups to fair and ready markets
The project would finalize and solidify discussions to source for better markets for their produce. Market surveys would be completed and fair market options identified to provide ready market to farmers produce that would increase their incomes to sustain their livelihoods. Such markets, it is envisaged should be easily accessible to the farmers.

5. Form women-farmer trust groups and animate
The project would identify and select serious women-farmers and put them into farmer trust groups based on the existing social capital within the Traditional Area. Each farmer trust group would range from eight (8) to ten (10) members. Every farmer trust group will have a chairperson, a secretary, and a treasurer.
6. Organize women to form a CBO or a cooperative
Selected serious and committed women would be put together to form a CBO or a cooperative to be registered for the sustenance of land management and appropriate agricultural practices.
