Rahul-Karu Marine Biodiversity Conservation, Sustainable Use & Ecotourism Project
NSC approved a Full Grant under STAR allocation for a total of US$40,025.10 to New Ireland based CBO to undertake a project on Marine Biodiversity Conservation & Sustainable Use areas totaling approximately 800 ha in Rahul and Karu villages located within Central Niu Ailan LLG. This project will support GEF Focal area of Biodiversity Conservation. The project will involve communities participating in the assessment of their marine diversity and linked to livelihood project being the establishment of two Ecotourism Projects as a way to create income opportunity for the communities and relieve pressures from the marine environment. The Marine Education Classes will also be conducted with the aim of reaching more than 500 primary school children, adults and community leaders.
