Creation, restoration and protection of semi-natural ecosystems and green spaces in the internationally recognized Ramsar Site “Lower Dniester”
Creation, restoration and protection of semi-natural ecosystems and green spaces in the internationally recognized Ramsar Site “Lower Dniester”
Since 90’s green spaces and semi-natural ecosystems in the Republic of Moldova started to degrade. The project goal is creation, restoration and protection of the semi- natural ecosystems and green spaces from "Lower Dniester" Ramsar Site - wetland of international importance.
The lack of a corresponding administration and improvement, including the lighting of those areas, led to that that they are nor an advantage , but an impediment in the creation of a National Park "Lower Dniester" in "Lower Dniester" Ramsar Site - wetland of international importance.
The site supports many globally endangered and vulnerable bird species.
Some protection forest belts of seminatural ecosystems will be planted with trees that have maximum protection against soil erosion and CO2 capture.
The project goal was established on the way of a long research period and consultations with the NGOs representatives from this area. Provisions of Ramsar Convention on wetlands of international importance are the most important in implementation of this project.
Project objectives:
1. Creation, restoration and protection of semi-natural ecosystems and green spaces by implanting activities in 10 villages.
2. Deployment of low GHG technologies through installation of new LED lightning system with photovoltaic panels.
3. Public awareness and communication of project results.
4. Promoting women's participation in project monitoring.

The creation of a Lower Dniester National Park is under discussion.
