Establishment of POPs-free Demonstration Gardens at Three Educational Institutions in Trinidad
The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church intends to submit a full project grant proposal to the Trinidad and Tobago GEF, SGP, UNDP Office regarding financial support to establish POPs –free demonstration gardens at three educational institutions in Trinidad. The May Collymore Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) of the church will be the implementing agency.
The project intends to disseminate the principles and practical use of POPs–free gardening amongst 100 pupils (and into their homes) of one primary school (Gaines Normal AME Primary School, 18 Woodford Street, Newtown, Port of Spain) and two kindergartens (Blakley AME Private School, 82 Southern Main Road, Montrose, Chaguanas and Fast Learners Academy, South Valsayn). An additional photovoltaic educational set shall enlighten the pupils at the primary school about sun-energy power transfer in machines and plants.
This planning grant shall assist in the following four areas:
1. Facilitation of a stakeholder meeting including representatives of the three educational institutions, PTAs (if applicable), educators and a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources (if interested).
2. Technical assistance to design gardens and identify photovoltaic educational material, including costing.
3. Building capacity of the grantees to finalise a full grant according to GEF, SGP requirements.
4. Building capacity of the grantees to meet GEF, SGP reporting requirements.
The total budget for the planning phase is 6,320.00 USD of which 3,250.00 USD is in-kind and 3,070.00.00 USD is requested from the GEF, SGP, UNDP Trinidad and Tobago.
