Green Mobility: Promoting Sustainable Transport in Urban Communities
Green Mobility: Promoting Sustainable Transport in Urban Communities
The Green Mobility project aims to promote emission-free transportation in Armenia through a pilot program, which has the potential to attract a large segment of the population. The creation of “green”, emission-free transportation will have a long-term impact on the ecology of the country as well as its unique biodiversity.
The main objectives of the project are:

• To promote safe, clean, energy-efficient, low-impact, healthy, environmentally friendly and affordable mobility to increase environmental, social, and economic progress
• To foster reduction of carbon footprint within target groups - middle age professionals, business/delivery companies, government authorities, students, schoolchildren, city transport accident insurance agents, car owners, and tourists by offering alternatives to non-sustainable mobility
• To raise awareness and confidence in electric vehicles among target groups
• To support the development of a sustainable mobility programme and action plan in collaboration with the local government
• To showcase a new model of sustainable urban mobility in close cooperation with local state bodies (i.e. municipalities)

The specific results of the project include:

- Increased investment and usage of electrical bicycles (E-bikes) for delivering goods/services as an alternative means of transportation for the government authorities/civil workers, insurance agents, middle aged professionals, students and tourists
- Action plans will be developed for 2 other communities (Kapan and Dilijan) offering integration of E-bikes in the town transport strategies
- Solar powered E-bike charging system will be introduced in Yerevan Zoo, serving as a model for renewable energy efficiency
- Business plans will be developed to rent or sell E-bikes to individuals and companies (e.g. delivery & insurance companies in particular)
- Upon the completion of the project, the results will be analyzed and elaborated into a long-term strategy plan regarding E-bike utilization and incorporation into city transport that will be presented to Yerevan Municipality.
