Saltwater Desalination Project - Petats and Pororan Islands
The CBO intends to pilot a Saltwater Desalination Project in Petats Island, Buka. The project is the first of its kind in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB), and will be addressing the need to safe water consumption in the communities. Upon successfully implementing the project, the initiative will be scaled up to the neighbouring island, Pororan Island. Partnering with the ABG Environmental Bureau, the CBO hopes to see the idea replicated being to other parts of AROB. The project will further look at promoting water security in the communities through awareness on the best practices of water conservation and management and the importance of having access to safe and clean water. Mangrove rehabilitation will be a supplementary initiative to safeguard the communities from the recurring impacts of Climate Change.
This project never signed an MOA to receive the award as the project coordinator tragically passed away prior to formalising of award and the Board members did not have capacity to pursue the project.
