Preservation of endangered plants and promotion of tree seedlings by Traditional Medicine Practitioners
The CBO is based in Buka, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and was approved a planning grant with total of US$3,000 to assist in preparing a Full Proposal for the project titled ‘Preservation of endangered plants and promotion of tree seedlings by Traditional Medicine Practitioners’. The initiative will bring together traditional healers from all over the region who have knowledge and practice the use of plants to prepare medicines. The initiative will document this traditional knowledge and use of plants, their whereabouts and build nurseries to verify this practices and document them further for cultural and conservation purposes. This project will assist to further identity these medicinal plants and then contribute to increased awareness on their value and use with the view to preventing their loss and degradation to their natural habitats. The project intends to preserve and/or rehabilitate the plant species that are seen as endangered/endemic and of medicinal value. The CBO will try to preserve all knowledge about medicinal plants and their application methods within Bougainville.
