Linking Conservation of Riverine Resources with Sustainable Livelihood: North Eastern Godavari basin, India
Project Objective:
The primary objective of the project is to link conservation of the natural resources with livelihood generation of the dependent people by fostering knowledge based management of natural resources and to conserve riverine resources by fostering basin eco-restoration.
1. Capacity building of the local institutions (Village Council) regarding river and fish conservation movement targeting 10 villages.
2. Setting up of new institutional structures in the form of River Conservation societies, Biodiversity management committees and farmers clubs in the selected 10 villages and involving it in river and fish conservation moment.
3. Leadership development among 10 rural youths about river and fish conservation moment.
4. Eco-restoration of Bembla river basin which will include complete eco-restoration of 10 streams, farm bunding and plantation at 10 selected villages.

Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Active participation of both men and women will be required. The main aim of project is to link conservation of natural resources with sustainable livelihood generation for fishermen, farmers and labourers by foresting knowledge based management of natural resources and to conserve riverine resources. Workshops, meeting, awareness campaigns, exposure visits will be organized in order to enhance the knowledge of the village people, especially women. Incentives will be provided to farmers for purchasing seeds and organic farming products. It will promote through 10 women SHGs and 10 business enterprises local millets crop based economy, poultry, and develop the local leadership to handle these enterprises.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Conducting workshops for the local people for explaining methodology of “Ecosystem approach to fisheries” and “people’s biodiversity register”. Strengthening already established “Producer Company” by workshops and exposure visits and also launching awareness generation campaign like NADI PARIKRAMA (River march), NADI SAMMELAN (River symposium), organizing 2 days sustainable agriculture summit etc.
