Refurbishment of biodiversity house - “Tebulo”

The main idea of the project is to have biodiversity house “Tebulo” on-place as a functional base for the scientists and all interested visitors in biodiversity field. It will be a place from where different scientific field trips and eco-educational activities will be held. Biodiversity house “Tebulo” will serve also the community as guarantee to protect local biodiversity and to improve the local people’s socio-economic conditions..

Project Characteristics and Results

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

The activities include the services which will be necessary during construction process and afterwards the completion of the project.This may include them to work as guides, or assistants of the training or botanical field work, do an exhibition of traditional handicraft, or suggest eco or agro-tourism activities to the visitors. This project also motivates and triggers the locals to improve services.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The communication strategy includes fliers and booklets. Also social networking sites will be actively used to promote planned and implemented activities. If necessary, meetings with the representatives of the local community members will be held.

Project sustainability

The operation of the biodiversity home will eventually have a long, inexhaustible effect. It will be located not far from Tbilisi, at a distance of 200 km, completely different from the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, in multi-stage landscapes. it is opportunity for locals as NP will be promoted, will created additional income generations practices and employed opportunities

Policy Impact

The project could have the impact on the Policy in the long term.This will be the pioneer project and will create a good base for other environmental projects in this region to be carried out. From this biodiversity house a pasture management plan and the management plans for the protected area categories can be elaborated.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

This project is the beginning and basis of other environmental projects. All the activities and experience will be captured and prepared as a press release to become widely known for the audience and stakeholders. Our project will support future environmental projects which will be important for the monitoring flora and fauna, prepare reports of their conditions, future scenarios and plans. Booklets and fliers about local biodiversity will be prepared for visitors.

Capacity - Building Component

organizaton's main goal is to increase the eco-environmental awareness level of local people as well as to maintain and improve their socio-economic situation. Thus this project aims to increase the awarenes level of locals concerning the protected areas and key species. These locals will be involved in the biodiversity house activities which will support the academic research and botanical excursions related to biodiversity.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

project will have a long term beneficial influence on local people. In the implementation phase of the project and afterwords, the activities, that will be supported by the biodiversity house "Tebulo", such as guiding, catering, horse renting and etc. will create alternative livelihoods for the local people.

Notable Community Participation

the youth will be the main target of the eco-educational activities (collecting herbariums, making botanical excursions, increasing environmental awareness activities) which will take place in this biodiversity house.

Gender Focus

young women was involved in the functioning of Tebulo. This included their training in related professions, such as local guides, etc. Another opportunity was to engage local women in offering traditional cuisine and dishes to visitors – this will on one hand assist their employment and livelihoods and secondly will attract more visitors.

The locals are aware about the importance of biodiversity and the benefit they can get from the ecosystem services.
Biodiversity house “Tebulo” serves also the community as guarantee to protect local biodiversity and to improve the indigenous people’s socio-economic conditions.
