- It was a first precedence of local authorities’ participation in green gentrification project, which urged government to allocate more resource for the vegetation purposes. The Mayor of Tbilisi made an announcement on this topic, proposing gentrification on the rooftops of garages across the city. - In order to protect newly gentrified areas some parking restriction were applied in the area
- The project made community ties stronger. Ongoing dialogue between public and governmental entities (such as residents of the apartment blocks, Saburtalo administration and skilled stakeholders) will continue bringing positive implications such as working together towards formation of green-environmental facilities
Greening the area will be increasing health benefits of children and the elders, who lives in the new green yards. The gentrified and beautiful yards will be a new standard for the children who will grow up in the yard. The project can be used as the precedent of collaborative venture for creation mini-parks in the modern high-rise apartment blocks housings.
Gender Focus
The project is led by women. Also there’s more than half of women involved in the apartment block association.
Because the project is primarily aimed at improving the quality of life of children in the courtyards by provision of green environment, it is expected that the most active involvement in the discussions and implementation will be mainly by non-working mothers. Number of women were already involved in the process of green gentrification from the initial vegetation works. These women acquired skills required for caretaking of the green areas in the yards, which they are using on daytoday bases.
On the flip side most of the administration employees are mainly males. Dozens of men were involved in the heavy works of green gentrification in all three yards, such as soil cleanup works, cutting trees, digging, vegetation, irrigation, e.t.c.
The gender issues representative - Nineli Putkaradze will be consulted throughout the project on all gender related issues or initiatives to ensure that the gender balance is preserved throughout the project

Planning non gef grant
The “New Yard Project” fostered interest around greengentrification activities in the city. The Mayor of Tbilisi proposed to green gentrificate all the courtyards of the city
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
This project helped to build stronger community feel, by fostering the dialogue between the residents, local administration and skilled stakeholders.
The dialogue initiated by ‘New Yard Project” should serve as a foundation for joint efforts in improving eco-social-environmental situation in the neighborhood in the future. Urban greening of three yards won’t immediately trigger the restoration of the ecologic balance in the area, with the length of seven kilometers. However green gentrified area already has localised impact. These vegetated yards are available within walking distance for mothers with children and older generations from other un-gentrified yards of Saburtalo district.
There was a great example of cooperation between NGO “Child & Environment” and the local body of Saburtalo’s district. That resulted in a great contribution of local administration to the greening project, especially improvement of courtyards infrastructure.
In spite of creation of green escapes in three courtyards, there was low involvement of the residence. Having observed the behavior the issue we will have to resolve in future is to decide how to maintaining the green gentrified land.
Providing training and professional redevelopment for teens from disadvantaged families.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
Throughout the project development people of different age groups, gender and occupation were involved in the green gentrification project. Passive participants were receiving regular updates on the Facebook page on all the ongoing processes in the yard and were observing all stages of the project and spread the word. Newly acquired experience and learnings were shared via Facebook as well. Active contributors of the project gained some practical gardening skills. Additionally there was ongoing trainings for the youths from disadvantaged families. Teens received a full support of volunteers in the courts and of the administration. The administration will gain a new expertise in working with residents on co-creation of environmental areas. All project participants learned how to conduct a constructive dialogue and worked together in order to resolve the issues concerning quality of life. The successful experience of working together on green gentrification can be expanded to other courtyards in Tbilisi and across Georgia, as well as the knowledge and know-how acquired during the project could be easily applied to gentrification projects in other areas. All processes in the project are documented. After completion of the project, we created the document, which contains description on project aim, challenges and results.

The project coordinator is in continuous dialogue with the City Hall of Tbilisi. The aim is to pass on the learnings of the project, such as creation of public dialogue, involvement of the community and vegetation practices to the next project of similar type.
Notable Community Participation
organization used its capabilities and expertise not only to support green gentrification of the yards, but also to ensure that youths from disadvantaged backgrounds have acquired basic knowledge in gardening and landscape design.
"College of Landscape Design" conducted two trainings in landscape design for teenagers from socially disadvantaged families and some residents of the yard. One training was held on the territory of the yard (first day), while the second training (second day) was held in the park of Saint Trinity Cathedral. The third training (practice) was conducted during vegetation works on the territory of “Child and Environment’s” office backyard. Acquired skill will be useful for them in later life. The "Child and Environment" was responsible for organising and monitoring all three trainings.
Young volunteer residents from the courtyards took part in the vegetation works in each of the three yards.
There was a strong support and common sense across youths toward environmental support and green gentrification in particular.
