Project Characteristics and Results

Notable Community Participation

Local youth participated in creation of a local action group and in project ongoing activities. Young people were involved in training programs and community projects implementation and advocacy campaign. As a result, the garbage bins were placed in the village for waste proper management and the pasture land was allocated to the village. The youth group has created a local pasture management team. They are involved in the pilot activities of pasture improvement.

Capacity - Building Component

Locals have little access to information and trainings. The project has offered various training programs for capacity building and for access to information, as a result locals learned to protect own interests and rights. Planning , participation in decision making and Implementation activities of small micro size projects has enable locals to acquire relevant practice and knowledge. Additionally, the land degradation reduction project has been initiated to improve pastures management in the village.

Gender Focus

The gender issues are considered in project proposal, noting that women feel more isolated than men. The main goal of the project is to stimulate local community for different activities and initiatives. In this direction, women’s role is also considered. During the project implementation women will participate in different activities for development of the community. The community development group created within the project included women and men. Women participated in the training and meetings held within the project.

Policy Impact

The project has positively demonstrated "top down" decision making and advocacy process on municipal level. Locals learned advocacy campaign planning and implementation; as a result some specific solutions/decisions have been made from municipality to improve village conditions. The Community Development Strategy was elaborated and was sent to Akhmeta Municipality City Hall and Municipality.

Project sustainability

There is a community union "Kasritskali Development Center", which will facilitate implementation of community development plan. The project long-term sustainability includes empowered community to ensure implementation of community development plan initiatives with cooperation of various organizations and as a result ensure sustainable

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

To raise awareness of the population, project informational meetings and social and local media outlets was organized by the project manager. In the process of implementation of the project, direct meetings with the population were organized in different districts of the village. The information was also shared via Facebook. The program "Nature's door" was prepared in Adjara TV program devoted to this project and village.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Within the framework of the project, knowledge transfer was provided through information delivery, theoretical and practical teaching. The organization will also get knowledge about the situation in the local community and it will reflect in the documents prepared within the project.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Within the framework of the project, the village development plan was elaborated focusing of i improvement of socio-economic and livelihood conditions of locals. After this the community groups and Akhmeta municipality jointly implemented 5 community initiatives. In cooperation with the Vashlovani National Park administration of the, the locals started small tourism initiatives – setting guesthouses. Three families have been installed solar water heater collectors. The locals also practiced the methods of insulating of houses. A wool-producing studio was established where 4-5 local women were employed.
