Environmental Stewards Training Project
Today’s youth will become tomorrow’s leaders and it is our responsibility to provide them with educational experiences, for them to make knowledgeable decisions regarding the environment. Young people are the next generation of farmers, entrepreneurs, fisher folk, consumers and educators and it is our responsibility to make them stewards of the environment which they will inherit. Over the years, there have been numerous programmes and projects executed by various agencies with regard to the environment yet the majority of the population including the youth, remain unaware of environmental issues such as ‘ loss of biodiversity’, land degradation and desertification’which are taking place in Grenada, especially in the South of the island. ; There is also a high level of ignorance on issues of climate change’ and its related impacts such as rising sea levels, increased surface temperatures which are impacting us as well. The use of toxic chemicals, especially in the agriculture sector which are affecting on our water table food chains; and ecosystems in a negative way is still not readily appreciated by the Grenadian public, especially the youth. This project seeks to contribute to reducing the level of ignorance among the youth and the general public as a whole by running an intense educational and awareness building summer camp that imparts essential knowledge on climate change and other environmental issues to the youth of St. George’s and St. David which would make them more aware and interested in environmental management and protection.
