The people of OkeOsun area of Osun State, Nigeria are predominantly farmers. Commerce and livelihood is predominantly dominated by varied forest and farm products, which also provided the link of source of relationship with other sectors of the society through trade. The target communities have an estimated population of about 6,500 but the project will benefit about 60,000 people of OkeOsun area in Ayedire Local Government of Osun State. Thaumatococcusdanielliinis a famous wrapping leaves for food items and in consistent high demand in the highly populated urban cities in south west Nigeria. This nature friendly project is aimed addressing the depletion of wrapping leaves, increase its cultivation and the promotion of its use for packaging food items. This is aimed at addressing a breakdown in food culture with the use of nylon for packaging food and a potential damage to rural commerce, economy, agro-ecosystem and livelihoods for future generations. The project will work with private sector groups, the media and research institutions to promote knowledge management and public advocacy on the need for the promotion of wrapping leaves against nylon for food packaging.
