Documentation and development of guidelines for mainstreaming Climate Smart Innovative Agro-Ecology practices and Gender Development into community level activities within the Black Volta Basin
The main objective of the project is to synthesize academic research works and reports on climate change and gender mainstreaming issues on the Black Volta relevant for the SGP work in Ghana and stir research and publication interest by providing platforms for knowledge creation and sharing, advocacy and sensitizations through periodic public lectures, seminars and conferences that keeps various actors abreast with challenging international research breakthroughs and findings.
1.3.5 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

The specific objectives of the project are:

1. to document, synthesize and share the knowledge emanating from the annual conference proceedings, available research and academic journals, policy briefs to guide the management of projects within the Black Volta Basin;
2. to develop guidelines to guide communities and field operators in the steps to mainstream climate change and gender issues into every day community level planning activities utilizing scientific information.
1.3.6 Project Justification:
The project is in line with GEF’s OP6 communication and documentation strategy. The main objectives for communication during the OP6 are to ensure that all the lessons learned from the implementation of the projects are captured, analyzed and shared with key stakeholders to promote learning within and across communities and countries. The key strategies to achieving this vision are to:
• build capacity for knowledge management at the local level through training and learning;
• Contribute to relevant knowledge bases and fora by increasingly forming a constituency of CSOs with capacity, motivation and systematic information flow;
• capture and disseminate the results, lessons learned and best practice from the SGP portfolio via different media by streamlining and strengthening the database, intranet and website to allow for knowledge exchange and sharing;
One of the communication strategy is to publish annual case studies of best practices.

1.3.7 Global Environment Benefits

The proposed project would result in multiple global, national, and local environment benefits, within the context of sustainable development. These benefits would include:

• Enhanced understanding of the linkages between climate science, policy and the developmental and equity outcomes engendered by the prevailing global climate governance regime.
• better understanding of recent climate change trends and the implications for Africa’s sustainable development
• Increased focus on investment and partnerships within the field of climate research for development by African Governments and partners
• Improved knowledge of the opportunities for clean energy development to inform the development and or enhancement of appropriate policy platforms to support renewable energy initiatives
• Integration of climate change issues into comprehensive rural development programmes to inform sustainable development planning.
1.3.8 Expected results:

The intended results of the project are:
1. Document the case studies on climate change and gender development relevant for the SGP work in the Black Volta Basin.
2. Develop guidelines for mainstreaming gender and climate change issues to guide NGOs operating in Ghana.
1.4 DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES.

Various project activities will be carried out to achieve the project objectives that would result in outputs. These are enumerated below:

Output 1: Document the case studies on climate change and gender development relevant for SGP work in the Black Volta Basin.

Activity 1.1 Select the case studies on climate change and gender development and draw inferences for the development of the Black Volta Basin

The project management team in consultations presenter during the workshop will compile all relevant presentations on climate change and gender and draw major lessons for the development of the Black Volta.

Activity 1.2 Synthesize and summarize the implications of each case study

A team of Experts would be put together to request the presenters to submit real case studies for publications.

Output 2: Develop guidelines for mainstreaming gender and climate change issues to guide NGOs operating in Ghana.

The activities to be pursued are:

Activity 2.1 – Develop thematic journals and guidelines
Base on the outcome of the workshop develop three journals on
Theme 1: Environment, Technology and Sustainable Development
Theme 2: Renewable Energy, Resilience and Green Economies
Theme 3: Agriculture, Aquaculture and Natural Resources

Activity 2.2 – Print and distribute the guidelines
To create a platform for knowledge sharing which would lead to informed decision making in climate sensitive areas such as natural resources, agriculture, food and water security, energy, science and technology, and transport publish and distribute the workshop proceedings.
Activity 2.3 Document, manage and share the knowledge management platform.
Document, manage and share the knowledge emanating from the conference proceedings through publications in academic journals, policy briefs and feature articles.
