The Development of a sustainable eco-friendly youth Aquaponics Facility which will be used as a demonstration farm for teaching and development of aquaponics in Saint Lucia to help contribute to Food and Nutritional Security.
This project will give a major impetus to climate smart agriculture in Saint Lucia by creating a network of Aquaponics systems in Saint Lucia. The project has four objectives as follows: (i) to establish a complete and sustainable aquaponics farm in Saint Lucia which is used as a demonstration farm where new and modern methods of agriculture are used to mitigate the impacts of climate change; (ii) to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in food production in Saint Lucia; (iii) to establish a strong MOU between Green Haven Fresh and SLAFY which is the basis for transferring a minimum of 30% of the net profits to SLAFY on a semi-annual basis and the use of the facility as an outdoor laboratory for youth who wish to enter agriculture; and (iv) to diversify the income source of the aquaponics facility by developing the facility as an agro-tourism site.
