Adapting/Mitigating the Impacts of Climate Change through Alternative Livelihoods in the Douglas Castle Community
Adapting/Mitigating the Impacts of Climate Change through Alternative Livelihoods in the Douglas Castle Community
The community of Douglas Castle is prone to several natural hazards especially flooding, droughts and
hurricane/tropical storms which are now being exaggerated by climate change. The community is listed
as one of the most vulnerable communities to flooding in the Parish of St. Ann by the Office of Disaster
Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM). Erosion of top soil has also occurred throughout the community. The project seeks to reduce the community?s vulnerability to several hazards through
early warning mechanism, while contributing to the achievement of Vision 2030 Jamaica Goals# 4.
