Youths bringing Grenada?s vulnerability to climate changes to the forefront
( i) What is the problem or challenge this project is addressing?
A learning curve exist among Grenadian youths whereby the island?s vulnerability to environmental changes are under estimated and disregarded. Grenada, a small island to the south of the Caribbean Sea has an economy that is highly dependent on Agriculture and Eco Tourism is very susceptible to negative environmental changes. Receding shorelines, landslides and flooding, hurricanes and dying coral reefs are all visible indicators of climate changes on the island. The project seeks to incorporate modern technology such as social media and interactive apps, which will inform and motivate Grenadians to refrain from daily practices that may negatively affect the environment, and to also confront the country?s present vulnerabilities to climate change. This will generate greater interest and encourage environmental management and protection.

(ii) What are the causes of the problem or challenge?
The principal causes of the problem that this project aims to address are varied and include direct causes such as :
1. Lack of a coherent PR and educational strategy targeting the youth
2. Insufficient appropriate promotion and awareness raising strategies
3 Lack of consistent promotion and awareness raising of environmental issues
4. Lack of resources for promotion and awareness raising
5. Lack of youth appropriate promotion and educational material

There are also indirect causes which include:
6. Lack of interest by general public
7. Insufficient awareness raising at primary and secondary schools
8.Omission of appropriate interactive technology to generate interest and motivation among youths

iii) What are the project goal, objectives and outcome?

To emphasize the factors that contribute to global warming and why Small Island Developing States like Grenada are vulnerable. A well-informed society that is better able to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

(iv) What is the strategy and activities you will be implementing?
It will be a summer camp for four weeks.
Activities will include:
Organize presentations on climate change
Organize tech room

Organize Site visits

Undertake small projects
Organize small group projects for students/youth
Conduct environmental research projects with youth

Website (Create Blog/journal site/) and Interactive apps

(v) What is the total budget and how it is being financed?

vi) Who will benefit?
The direct beneficiaries of this project will be the young people, both male and female participating in the project, however it is expected that the knowledge gained by them form this project will filter down to their families and friends and the wider community.

(vii) How will the project be monitored evaluated and the lessons learned disseminated
The young people will be given a questionnaire at the beginning of the project to assess their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. This will be repeated at the end of the programme to evaluate the extent of their learning.
A video documentary will be made during the programme which will be negotiated to be shown on GIS. Additionally, a website will be created and hosted for a year it will have discussion forums, blogs, and interactive apps for download. These will be made available to the public, schools and the Ministry of Education.
