"Community aforestation and environmental management project".
The main goal of the project is to reverse land degradation on the village farmlands, restore the lost forest, through promotion of stove, raise awareness, reduce poverty and create sustainable livelihoods in communities.
Project will further seek to increase household income level to 2% (amongst women and youth) and enhance the environmental management techniques that are adoptable to communities to reserve the current trend of destruction of farm lands thus to improve household food security.
Specific objectives:
? To promote agro-forestry in the Lower Niumi District that will reduce desertification and mitigate the effects of climate change
? To promote the knowledge and skills gained and further be expanded to benefit other women from the various women and youth groups through subsequent step down trainings at community level
? To increase net household income by reducing household expenditures on purchase of fuel-wood.
? To promote improve cooking stove that will be cost effective and reduce the use of fuel wood up to 20%
? To increase food production through improve farm practice using soil and water conservation techniques.
To reduce the effect of drought by promoting massive tree planting and protection exercises with awareness creation on stray animals issues in other to have 60% survival rate
