Sustainable Grenada 2030 – Waste Water Management & S.T.E.M solutions for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency
Sustainable Grenada 2030 is a two - phase project. Phase 1 of the project will address the health and economic issues as a result of, improper disposal of waste water near in Grenada, especially near convalescence homes throughout Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique. In this regard, convalescence homes wastewater was chosen as the focus of this project. The implementation of this project will result in the wastewater being used in gardens and farms using the wetland design system. Research shows that wastewater treatment is the process of converting wastewater – (water that is no longer needed or is no longer suitable for use)– into bilge water that can be discharged back into the environment. Most natural wetlands are free water surface systems where the water surface is exposed to the atmosphere; these include primary vegetation mosses, vegetation trees and marshes (primary vegetation grasses
Phase 2 is the execution of a National Science Fair to showcase projects and models generated by primary and secondary school students that highlight the utilization of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics solutions to issues surrounding climate change and the efficient use of energy including alternative sources of energy. Our youths are the generation who will be highly impacted by the effects of climate change and positive changes in their environmental behavior can have long term implications on this and future generations. Teaching them to be environmentally responsible citizens and showcasing their ideas to deal with climate change and its effects is key in ensuring a sustainable planet in the future.
