Involving Women in the Development of Sustainable Food Systems in the Mayan Golden Landscape
Involving Women in the Development of Sustainable Food Systems in the Mayan Golden Landscape
This project focuses on the involvement of women in agriculture in indigenous communities with the Maya Arts Women?s group as the intermediary organization as well as Marigold Women?s Group (MWG), Protectors of the Last Corridor (PLC) and the Trio Farmers Cacao Growers Association (TFCGA). Ya?axchè will provide technical assistance and agro-ecology training to implement integrated pest management systems by building demonstration laboratories to grow insects that are natural predators for identified pests.

This project seeks to provide training certification for participants to serve as evidence not only for farmers that have transitioned to climate-smart agricultural methods in the MGL, but highlight the potential for farmers nationwide to implement practices that create organic and sustainable food systems. The success of this project would serve as an example of harmony between nature and human development for the benefit of both.
