Promotion of Goat rearing in the community to conserve the forest for the future generation
Main Project Objective
The main purpose of this project is to conserve biodiversity of wildlife and forest natural resources in Mulendema Game Management Area through alternative livelihood strategies and sustainable community forest management.
Specific objectives
1. To improve livelihoods of 621 affected households by securing income through two alternative
livelihood strategies (goat rearing and energy saving stove making & usage) and sustainable
natural resource management;
2. To strengthen capacity of 621 households in Kapepe VAG to ensure integrated management of
wildlife and the forest natural resources
3. To increase household-level participation through hands-on development and demonstration of
alternative livelihood activities directly affecting 621 households in Kapepe VAG
Expected Results
1. Increased number of people rearing goats
2. Empowered local communities with new skills in goat rearing and energy saving stoves
3. Improved nutrition from goat rearing
4. Provided alternative income sources for the people of Shimuka and Busunte VAG through goat
rearing
