Conserving biodiversity and promoting green enterprises for improved livelihoods of earthquake affected households in Jhirghari Community of Makanpwanpur District
The project will be implemented in earthquake affected, landslide prone Jhirghari community in Ward 9 of Bhimphedi Rural Municipality of Makawanpur district in a mid-hills zone. There are 7 different clusters with 202 household, 992 total population and 37% youth. The major source of livelihood for the people living in the community are labor work and traditional subsistence farming dominated by cereals (maize based), seasional vegetables and some local medicinal plants and herbs. As the community lies at the altitude of around 2000 msal, indigenous crops like local walnut (Hard shell type), Sugandawal (Valeriana Jatamansi Johns), broom grass (Thysanolaena agrestisa) carry high potentials for both for soil conservation and income generation.

Since the site is situated in a very suitable agro-climatic location, lies in between Kathmandu and Hetauda (federal capital city of Bagmati), there are huge potential for successfully run the green enterprises. The place also lies very close to one of the tourist destination Simbhanjyang and Daman, home-stay is another very good opportunity for locals.

Thus the project aimed to conserve biodiversity by developing different demo plots for medicinal plants, walnuts by applying SALT technology and promote organic farming and homestay in order to improve local livelihood.
