Community conservation of I. garbonensis and Sustainable Livelihood in Uhonmora-Ora and Oah-Okpuje Community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.
This project is therefore aimed at Community conservation of Irvingia (African Bush mangoes) and sustainable livelihood in Uhonmora-ora and OAH-Okpuje communities in Owan west local Government area of Edo state. The project seeks to establish an Irvingia nursery that will plant and nurture 5000 seedlings. With active participation of about 300 community framers, the plantlets will be then transplanted to their farms on a 100sqm of land for each farmer. To support sustainable livelihood, the project will also install solar powered driers, processors for improved plantain processing in the two communities. Capacity on New farming Techniques, Food Processing and Packaging will also be implemented during the course of the project. The project will all so develop women farmer enterprises to help build micro credits for their Irvingia and plantain production and processing
