Highlighting Symbols of National Heritage and Strengthening Community Support Systems
This project is taking a multi-pronged approach toward the recognition of the cultural heritage of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This would be done first through recognizing that St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a rich culture that is founded (a) in the industry and economic contribution of ordinary folk; (b) the forging of social and economic forces for community progress (c) the celebration of life through written and spoken language and symbols.
The UWI Open Campus, will, through this project initiate a series of actions that will represent the components of the cultural heritage of SVG which are listed above. The proposed activities are as follows:
(a) Restoration of the Aqueduct on the grounds of the Open Campus Site
(b) Construction of a sculpture to represent the Old Cotton Ginnery (workers and activities)
(c) Building the capacity of community heritage organisations
(d) Hosting a literary and heritage fair/event
