Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
By building the capacity of local Rangers, who are mainly young people, providing alternative sources of food (backyard gardens) and disaster resilience preparedness materials (early warning tools, communication equipment) the project will reduce the pressure on the environment, and enable and empower indigenous resource stewards to take control of the COVID response in a sustainable way. Specifically, the solar-powered refrigeration units will ensure that local villagers have a fresh and available supply of protein that has not been sourced from poaching or from inside local conservation areas.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The CSO grantee is a local community based networks comprises of indigenous people whom will speak the local vernacular language through the project to communicate with the local people within the Tabwemasana conservation.
