The building of Mooring facilities
The building of Mooring facilities
The project aim is to promote and conserve the marine biodiversity through the elimination of dynamite fishing and boat anchors on reefs and wreck sites at the project sites in Kimbe Bay. The project will establish durable environmental moorings at dive sites and identify community based tourism operations and NGOs to promote the diving and tourism industries, thus creating opportunities for community based tourism to generate income activities. The programme is now in its 2nd phase. Major dive spots were selected and installed with the mooring facilities to increase the dive operators awareness of marine conservation practices, environmental monitoring techniques.

The project developed educational materials for school students and visited villages and did environmental awareness through puppet shows, handed out booklets, pamphlets and held meetings with the local resource owners.

The project was successfully completed with alot of media coverage.
