The preliminary findings of the study has generated a lot of public debate on the need to formulate local level policies and legislations to guide the use of chemicals in the production of vegetable for local consumption and the export market. A policy on integrated pest management in the vegetable production is to promoted and enforced. The need to introduce labeling of vegetables on the local market to identify their sources has become paramount.

The project encouraged the vegetable farmers to integrate poultry and animal husbandary into their activities so that they can compost the droppings with domestic refuse to generate organic manure for vegetable farming.

The project involved all the vegetable producers and sellers operating in the Weija and Ashiaman irrigation sites. The land owners and indegenous people from outlying communities were iinvloved in the study.

The project made two publications in the state-owned national dailies. This helped to create awareness on the activities of the GEF/SGP in the country.

The vegetable farmers were trained on documentation and record keeping. Vegetable producers associations were formed and strengthened to enusre compliance to the right use of chemicals in vegetable production. Farmers were exposed to proxy indicators on the pollution in the soil and water.

Women involved in the selling of vegetables were assisted to form groups, learn records and book-keeping and setting up revolving funds to generate capital.
