Capacity Strengthening for Biodiversity Conservation and Enhanced livelihood security at Pebaseman Community Resource Management Area
The project involves the creation of Community Resource Management Area (CREMA) in Pebase to guide the restoration of and sustainable utilization of community lands to restore biodiversity; silvicultural training of farmers in natural regeneration, coppice management and enrichment planting; replanting of 200 ha of degraded lands within the CREMA with indigenous speicies; development and signing of memorandum of understanding between land owners and tenant farmers on security of tree tenure; formulation and implementation of participatory landuse plans by the indigenous farmers; establishment, management and utilization of of non-timber forest products; training of traditional health practitioners in the sustainable use and improved packaging and marketing of traditional herbal medicines; and the intodcution of alternative livelihood support to rural women's groups in the commercial production of wildlife, snails, mushroom, apiculture and wood carving from timber off-cuts to boost biodiversity.
