SGP at COP 29 - Baku, Azerbaijan
The 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place from 11 to 22 November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. On 20 November, SGP will hold a joint event with the International Climate Initiative (IKI) from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of the Government of Germany, along with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

At this joint event, grant-makers, development partners, government and civil society representatives will reflect on the importance of community-focused approach for addressing converging global challenges and the impacts of the local initiatives they supported and implemented. The discussion will focus on the role of local communities and civil society as key agents of change in advancing climate and sustainable development goals together.

Climate Finance Strategies: Enhancing Capacities to Tackle Environmental Challenges
Where: League of Arab States Pavilion
When: November 14 2024, 12pm – 1pm (Azerbaijan Time)
This event will discuss the importance of stimulating climate finance strategies and their significance in capacity building to address environmental challenges, highlighting examples of projects and initiatives that contribute to adapting to the impacts of climate change and mitigating its effects, including thse funded by the GEF SGP and the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.
Directing Finance to Support Indigenous-Led Renewable Energy Initiatives

This side event organized by SGP with the Right Energy Partnership (REP) with Indigenous Peoples will discuss the importance of directing finance to support Indigenous-led renewable energy initiatives. A new publication will be launched at this occasion, featuring case studies of renewable energy projects led by Indigenous Peoples with support from SGP and REP in various countries, including Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Nepal, Timor Leste, El Salvador, and Honduras.
Financing & Accelerating Youth-led Climate Breakthroughs

The Government of Italy, UNDP and strategic partners highlight collaboration in financing and accelerating youth-led climate action through the flagship Youth4Climate initiative. This session will also spotlight UNDP integrated offers to advance youth engagement in climate action at global and regional levels.
How to sustain and scale funding for climate solutions

Capacity building session for young climate leaders on effective funding strategies for building sustainable business models, scaling their climate solutions, and ensuring long-term financial stability. This is the third session in a 3-part series in collaboration with UNDP's Youth4Climate initiative, TED Countdown and Youth Climate Justice Fund.
Resource Mobilization for Climate Adaptation in Asia’s High Mountains
