GEF SGP PROJECT DISTRIBUTES 3000 ENERGY SAVING LIGHT BULBS AMONG 11 SCHOOLS OF LUGANSK REGION, UKRAINE

Ukraine 3On May 18th, 2012, the GEF SGP project "Introducing energy efficient measures in Krasnodon schools" in collaboration with the CSO grantee "Ecoworld of Lugansk region" gave out 3000 energy-saving light bulbs to 11 schools in the Krasnodon district of Lugansk region, Ukraine. Representatives of the State Department of Environmental Protection in the Lugansk region, the State District Administration, Educational Departments, the GEF SGP National Steering Committee (NSC), UNDP, and the headmasters of 11 schools in Krasnodon district participated in this event.

The children's dance group "Drive" welcomed the guests with vivid and cheerful dances. Volunteers from the organization "Dobrohid" encouraged participants to use energy-saving light bulbs and underlined the importance of energy efficiency for the environment. A drawing competition titled "Energy efficiency is an easy thing!" was held to promote saving energy among children.

Mr. Oleksandr Arapov, Head of the State Environment Protection Department in Luhansk region, emphasized the importance of GEF SGP project implementation and the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Ms. Nataliya Serokurova, Head of Educational Department of Krasnodon District Administration, explained that the electricity cost savings from using energy-saving light bulbs will be used to provide the other 34% of schools in district with energy-saving light bulbs as well. The heads of the 11 local schools expressed great appreciation to the CSO "Ecoworld of Lugansk region" GEF SGP, and UNDP.
