Development of ecological networks and sustainable development on a municipal level - Municipalities of Nessebar and Asenovgrad
The specific situation in Bulgaria is application the sectoral approach in most of the management areas. For example the nature protection (species, habitats, landscape) is focused on protected areas which in many cases remain an insolated islands. This isolation from natural ecosystems leads to their degradation with the time. All this at the end reflects on the benefits for the local population such as insufficient natural resources (e.g. drinking water, wood, etc.), risk of erosion and loss of soil, desertification, loss of tourist resources and overall economic unsustainability in long term aspect.
The overall project idea is to start up and support the process of establishment of local ecological nets at municipal level in Bulgaria and establishment of sustainable practices for environmental management and use of natural resources. The project will be piloted in one Black Sea municipality ? Nesebar and one south central municipality Assenovgrad at the lowlands of Rodope mountains.
