Coral Reef Rehabilitation Research & Conservation
Through SGP funding the JREDS was formed as the first NGO concerned with the protection of the Red Sea Unique Ecology. The project activities included the initiation of a continuos coral reef monitoring programme followed by an intensive public information and awareness campaign. The project invited an interanational research vessel, which took data collected by the project and used it as part of a global survey of the coral reefs around the world.
several exhibits were organized, annual clean-up dives anr still conducted. The NGO managed to secure additional funding to sustain the project beyond proposed duration. They are currently implementing an eco-tourism project and assisting other groups in Aqaba in their marine biodiversity conservation efforts.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Several public awareness activities and materials were produced under this project. It had certainly helped to draw attentin of local people and local authorities to the importance of taking environmental considerations in the development efforts undertaken in the Gelf of Aqaba.
