Environmental Youth Camps/ Yajooz
This project consists the second phase of the "Environmental Youth Camps at Madaba Productive Forest" which was started in the first operational phase of the GEF/Small Grants Programme. The first phase of the Project was implemented by the Jordanian Forum for Environmental and Population Culture (FORUM) in a protected area in a site south of Amman; activities accomplished there included the installation of renewable energy applications in the site where many awareness activities were organized targeting youth and women in particular. This second phase is being transferred to the Cultural Society for Youth and Childhood (CSYC) at the request of (FORUM) and the approval of the GEF/SGP National Steering Committee. The (CSYC) will implement several other applications concerned mainly with biodiversity protection in another protected site in Yajooz area east of Amman, where urbanization is increasing at a threatening rate. The project will enable students to study wild flowers and vegetation cover in the protected site and make comparisons with areas outside the site. Students will use references on this topic including the "Field Guide to Wild Flowers of Jordan and Neighboring Countriesý" and other published research. Other applications will be established and used as demonstration sites.
