Bamboo Botanical Park & Ethnic Handicrafts Development Centre
The project aims to utilize communal idle land to establish a Bamboo Botanical Park at Obut Bikatang, Kampung Apar, Singai, Sarawak, as a living museum to conserve the various species of Bamboo as well as providing a sustainable source of raw material for handicraft revival and development by the women folk, and also as a means of alternative sustainable livelihood for the local community through ecotourism. Through the preservation and development of Bamboo species, the local culture, craft heritage and local language will be retained and enhanced with the self involvement of the local community.

Project Characteristics and Results
Policy Impact
Based on the outputs of the project, it is hoped that the state government of Sarawak and possibly, the Federal government of Malaysia, would enact necessary policies for the conservation and sustainable use of the rapidly dwindling stocks of wild bamboo.
Capacity - Building Component
Capacity building training workshops and seminars would be held over a period of 18 months to increase the capability and skills of the local community to implement the project successfully.
