Empowering Urban Communities to Reduce Their Contribution to Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss
The project aims to educate the urban community on the issues and interrelation of climate change, biodiversity and the quality of human life and how they can play an active role in reducing their negative impact. The objectives of the project are, i) to further serve the needs of the community by enhancing the role of the Biodiversity Community Centre (BCC) located at the Giant Cash and Carry in USJ with respect to climate change, biodiversity loss and community action, ii) to showcase the BCC as a model for replication by other organisations and iii) to develop a programme for replication by schools on how to raise the awareness of the school communities on climate change and biodiversity loss as well as to implement hands-on projects to reduce each school's contribution to climate change and biodiversity loss.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Due to the many human induced pressures that contribute to climate change, this project is aimed at raising the awareness and involving the urban communities in the city to reduce increasing demands for natural resources, such as water for urban and industrial needs and energy.
Capacity - Building Component
The Biodiversity Community Centre helps to build the capacity of the busy urban local communities through their on-going community recycling programme, educational and awareness talks/roadshows, and most importantly, the BCC serves as a model for replication by other local community organisations.
