Promotion of Community led approaches towards non-conventional energy & management of land resources to reduce GHG emissions and desertification / deforestation in kumaon Himalaya (Ranikhet region)?
Chatrasal Sewa Sansthan had earlier completed a SGP project titled ?Tarikhet Non-Conventional Energy Project? to introduce biogas as an alternate source of energy for households. With training and motivation the villagers had accepted biogas as an alternate energy source as well as shown interest in solar energy for electricity and heating water. This has reduced dependency on firewood and subsequently has reduced deforestation. On the basis of the demands from the communities, the organizations proposed to scale up the project over a larger area as well as introduce land and livestock management, reforestation and organic farming. The objective of the project is to facilitate the community to have sustainable model for alternate fuels leading to reduced GHG emissions and drudgery of women. The community will gain additional benefits from better land and livestock management.
