Water Supply and Home Gardens for women in three villages, Deneghen, Socotra Island, Yemen
The three villages (Qashaihen, Kadha and Adoona) are located on Deneghen wadi run off system at the suberb of Hadibu city the capital of Socotra. Water is avialble in Wadi Deneghen year round in suffecient quantity. There live 274, 370 and 130 people respectively. Women are sloely responsible for the gardens which are mainly of date palm trees and tomatoes. Lack of water limit vegetable growing for domestic use and for sale in nearby market on one hand and know how of different types of vegetable and their method of cultivation on other hand.
The project aiimed at the following:
- Provision of clean water sources for household use and for gardening throgh a distribution network.
- Buid water collection tanks and gardens tanks too iincrease water storage and availability at time of need.
- Capacity building for women in gardens management, vegetable growing techniques, preservation and marketing.
- Enable women of project mamanggement and sustaining their impact through learning and transmitting of experiences.
- Raise awareness among women and men of the impoortance of water and vegetaion in their area and the sustainable use of natural resources.
The project will establish a revolving fund based on benefitieries monthly subscription which will ensure project sustainability and extend its impact.
