Sustainable use of Local Resources for healthy and clean environment ? A Multistakeholders Approach for better livelihoods of tribals
The project has been designed, based on the experience of the pilot project that was implemented in the same district to ameliorate the damages caused by the sponge iron plants to the local environment. The project aims to build capacities at the local level for establishing and managing profitable enterprises producing smokeless briquettes from the industry waste, char. The units will provide an alternate source of income for the communities and will also provide a clean alternate to fuelwood at affordable prices.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Capacity building of community will be doen through trainings in book keeping; systems of operations; productions and marketing information, exposure visits to the pilot project. Trainings will be provided to the local community for managing the briquette unit. The capacity of the SHG members would be strengthened and links would be developed with district administration for the sustainability of the project.
Notable Community Participation
PRA and other social mapping tools would be utilized for making the community understand the broader objectives of the project and their role as a major stakeholder. Institutional arrangement will be strenthened (building a baseline of information through participatory approaches, Formation of SHG, entry point activities in the villages to have democratic decision making, developing linkages with banks for SHGs, agreeing the clear roles and responsibilities for the management committee at each of the briquette units).
