Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
A total of thirty seven (37) trainings will be conducted for about five hundred (500) ecotourism service providers including porters, trekking cooks, guides and home stay operators for enterprise development, management, conservation and implementation of Code of Conduct. Six (6) trainings will also be organized on strengthening institutional capacities for seven (7) CBO partners.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Over the years in the target villages, about 200 herders have phased off their cattle due to restriction of grazing in the reserved forest areas. These local communities have very limited resources and their access to trade and alternate livelihoods is also limited. Trekking and ecotourism has been identified as a potential and sustainable income generation activity in these remote villages. The project will build capacities of the villagers, identify new trekking trails, package and promote these trails as unique ecotourism destination and promote home-stay.
