Energy and Forest Conservation by Improving Insulation of Wooden Houses in Camili, Artvin
The project aims to demonstrate the importance of insulation in heating efficiency by choosing 3 houses from 4 villages (chosen to be the one with biggest insulation problems, therefore highest heating costs and are occupied by the largest number of people). The project area is one of the most important forest ecosystems in Turkey, which is among the oldest forest in Europe. The locals rely on wood resources for their heating mostly and due to the local architecture and the climatic conditions (very harsh winters - area cannot be reached by road for over 5 months each year), the consumption is at excessive levels. With this project, the insulation will be done in a manner that is suitable to the local architecture and in the most cost-effective way to enable replication of this metholdogy by other local people

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project has an indirect focus on sustainable livelihoods in that it promotes a decrease in the amount of fuel wood use for heating, resulting in a decrease in CO2 emmissions, the conservation of the local forest and a decrease in the portion of the disposable income of the local people spent for heating purposes.
